About me

Mariavittoria Vallarino, Speech and Language Therapist, certified Auditory Verbal Therapist LSLS Cert. AVT®

I received my Bachelor Degree in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Genoa in 2001. Since then I have been working with passion and determination.

In Italy I worked for 7 years at AFA centro REUL (now REDULCO), a Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre for families with children with disabilities, whilst working here I gained experience working with deaf children and quickly realised this is where my passion lay.

In 2008 I won a scholarship at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia to work with the Audiology team at the Policlinic Hospital in Modena with Prof. Genovese.

In my last 3 years in Italy I was part of the team at the the Audiology and Cochlear Implant Center of the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome.

Over the year I worked as a consultant for private services  (Amplifon Modena, Centro Leonardo Genova, Centro Saba Genova, AISM Genova)

In 2014 I moved to the UK and began  my training to become a Certified Auditory Verbal Therapist. I lived in London for 4 years where I worked privately as a Speech and Language Therapist. I still travel to London regularly to work with families and to collaborate with: Auditory Verbal UK, Chear Audiology, DottoreLondon, La Scuola Italiana a Londra.

During my training I received constant coaching and guidance in order to make sure my work is focused on making all children reach their full potential. The training I received, finally, allowed me to do my job to the highest quality, involving parents 100% throughout the rehabilitation process and maximising each child's outcomes.

In December 2019 I pass my exam and the AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language gave me the title of Listening and Spoken Language Specialist, Auditory Verbal Therapist (LSLS Cert.AVT).

In 2015, along with Deborah Pezzuto, mum of 2 boys with Cochlear Implants that started AVT at 2 months of age we founded facebook group AViTalia, with the view of sharing research and strategies to help parents and professionals to learn more about Auditory Verbal Therapy. Our aim of AViTalia is to raise awareness of the potential that  children with cochlear impacts or hearing aids have today.

I have delivered workshops on rehabilitation of deaf kids and Auditory Verbal Therapy at University of Modena and for private organisations in Napoli, Rome and Milan.

Thanks to Skype and Zoom I continue to work with families In Italy and around the world.

I now live in Glasgow, Scotland.
